How We’re Different from Other Film Schools
What makes TFA one of the best film schools in the country? In short, it’s our dedication to providing the hands-on, practical training that is so hard to find in other film production schools operating today.
Other film schools will lecture at students for two years before allowing them to touch a camera. Other film schools make students start out in low-level crew positions. And other film schools don’t allow students to work side-by-side with working media professionals. At TFA, you’ll start getting your hands dirty from day one, using professional-quality equipment alongside experienced filmmakers while trying on every role in the film production pipeline.
So while students at other film schools are still learning about filmmaking, you’ll actually be doing it: writing, shooting, directing, editing, and producing the projects you envision. In this way, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running in film and broadcast positions after graduation with tons of experience and a professional reel full of high-quality work.
What is a focused study?
Like a major at other film schools, a focused study at Tribeca Flashpoint Academy allows students to develop the area they’re most confident in while honing a wide range of skills that all professional filmmakers require.
There are six focused studies in the Film + Broadcast program at TFA: Cinematography, Editing, Directing, Producing, Screenwriting and Broadcast. In each of these tracks, students work on a number of projects and take on leadership roles in interdisciplinary and large-scale productions. They also gain experience in new media skills such as crowdfunding, crowdsourcing, social media marketing, online promotion and distribution, website monetization and digital activism.
By the end of their focused study year, every Film + Broadcast student will have credits on several narrative films, a web series, a documentary, and two videos for real-world clients—all assembled into a professional highlight reel that’s ready to help you put your film school education to use.
Preparing to Launch Your Career in Film + Broadcast
Dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art equipment and high tech facilities make TFA one of the world’s best film schools. But TFA isn’t just a film school. It’s also a taste of real-world experience. This is the best preparation for a career in media production. Students who earn a degree with TFA are equipped with the type of hands-on training and interpersonal skills necessary for long-term success in film, broadcast and new media industries.
