How We’re Different from Other Animation Schools
How can a two-year animation school stand above the rest? At TFA, we do so by helping our students rise to the standards set by the animation and visual effects industry itself.
One of the greatest challenges facing today’s professionals is the industry’s constantly evolving technology. To prepare our students to adapt, TFA has created a learning environment that closely resembles a real-world visual effects studio. Rather than teaching to a specific technology, we help our students learn the concepts behind industry-standard tools, which allows them to stay focused on the principles that make animation work.
TFA also differs from typical computer animation schools by teaching students to work in teams and accomplish goals together. Just like in a real animation or visual effects studio, each student works with others in a collaborative and interconnected environment, where individual achievements realize a larger vision.
Plus, unlike many animation schools, each one of our instructors has years of in-field experience, allowing them to guide and mentor students through the challenges and lessons that define the animation and visual effects industries.
What is a focused study?
Like a “major” at other animation schools, a focused study at TFA gives students an in-depth look at one specialized area of their discipline. In the Animation + Visual Effects program, there are three focused studies to choose from: modeling, animation and compositing.
In each of these focused study tracks, you’ll work on a number of projects and take on leadership roles in interdisciplinary and large-scale productions. By the end of the program, you’ll have credits on real animation shorts and visual effects shots that you can show to employers as examples of your work. Plus, you’ll have the soft skills—what we call the TFA Professional Standards—that employers are looking for in a new hire. Few computer animation schools can offer this level of industry connection.
Career Paths for Animators
The career paths for students coming out of the best animation schools such as TFA include character animations for feature films, broadcast, as well as the latest games and interactive media. Compositing students will work as visual effects artists, compositing using green screen technology, 3D stereoscopic effects, adding smoke, flame, water and destruction effects to filmed plate shots.
