This spring, animation and game students at Tribeca Flashpoint Academy are starting an exciting new project for UMIGO, the first-of-its kind transmedia music property that teaches today’s generation of kids ages 2-8 how to invent, build and create through collaborative, interactive play.
TFA’s Focused Study Modeling and Focused Study Producing + Project Management classes will work with UMIGO developers to create an augmented reality card game that helps kids practice and improve their math skills. They also met with thirteen participating Game + Interactive Media students to discuss the current state of transmedia usage and began planning for a fun, interactive booth for the 2012 WTTW Kids Fun and Run event.
Faculty member Antonio Sanders, who will be guiding the Animation students throughout the development process, is greatly looking forward to getting started. “As I told my students, the UMIGO project is a great opportunity to get real-world modeling experience: something they can use as a demo piece after they graduate. Plus, working with WTTW and W!LDBRAIN Entertainment means our students will have some really recognizable work on their resumes, which is sure to open doors for them in their careers ahead. We’re all looking forward to helping to make UMIGO a big success.”
